Life is a Cabaret

Christopher Williams '99 returned to Sarah Lawrence this fall to choreograph the student production of the musical Cabaret.

An award-winning choreographer, Williams said he thoroughly enjoyed coming back to campus and working with Sarah Lawrence students again.

"I saw them growing in leaps and bounds and experiencing things that I can remember learning: awareness about other people on stage, thinking about the effect of an ensemble, seeing oneself as part of a larger organic whole rather than as a solo entity.

"It's really a metaphor for life. Performers have to learn to make the power of their individuality shine in the more global picture."

Two other alumnae/i worked on the production: Nehemiah Luckett '04 was responsible for musical direction, and David Moyer '04 took care of costume design. Theatre faculty member Allen Lang directed the show, which ran for three nights in December.
