Visual Arts
The Sarah Lawrence College program in Paris offers students interested in the visual arts the city of Paris as a campus. From the classical sky lit studios of Montparnasse or Montmatre where masters such Corot and Picasso lived and worked to newly formed 21st century artists districts like Montreuil, from the Latin Quarter to Beaubourg, les Halles, the Tuileries or Jardin des Plantes, students may choose to study at ateliers, studio workshops or more traditional art/design schools as varied in approach and as unique in character as the neighborhoods of Paris.
Students in our program may choose to work in drawing, painting, photography, design, sculpture or printmaking. Ateliers and studio workshops offer a range of facilities featuring various techniques, mediums and approaches. Open to professionals and students of all ages and nationally and levels of artistic interest, the direction, focus, atmosphere and character of an atelier often reflects the make-up of those enrolled at any given time. Art/design schools provide a range of classes, faculty and levels of instruction from which to choose, course choices however may be more limited in second semester. Depending on your interest and the particular atelier or school, your time, space and projects might be structured differently. Many ateliers also have "open studio" were students may elect to work independently.
Students interested in studying visual art in the Sarah Lawrence College in Paris program are encouraged at the beginning of each semester to set aside time to explore possible study interests and options by visiting the uniquely different ateliers, studio and schools to meet the instructors.
