Established in 1961 by Walt and Roy Disney, the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) is the nation's first higher education institute to offer undergraduate and graduate degrees in both the visual and performing arts.
The Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts offers rigorous training in an unrivaled variety of musical styles and cultures. This vibrant mix helps each student to acquire the musical fluency to work across conventional boundaries, expand his or her artistic and cultural horizons, and develop a global creative vision. The following link will provide you with more information on the different options available to music students: http://music.calarts.edu/programs.
Since this is a rigorous conservatory environment, students interested in studying music at Cal Arts must meet and be recommended by Chester Biscardi, Director of the Music Program. Only students with sufficient training will be recommended to continue with the application process. Recommended students will have to submit audition materials to Cal Arts along with their application. Mr. Biscardi will advise students on how to prepare their portfolio.
