Sarah Lawrence College is about process—the building of understanding through experiment, the shaping of skills through practice. Our curriculum covers the humanities, history and social sciences, creative and performing arts and natural sciences and mathematics—all integral to the liberal arts. Students are not constrained by arbitrary requirements, but follow guidelines that call for course selection in three of the four academic areas. This ensures a broad exposure to the various disciplines, while the freedom to design their own programs allows students immense opportunity for specialized study and personal evolution.

Working 1:1

Emily Lin and Drew CressmanThe relationship between teacher and student is at the heart of a Sarah Lawrence education. Our new "Working 1:1" video series explores the range of inquiry that’s possible when working one to one. In the first installment, Emily Lin '09 and biology faculty member Drew Cressman discuss how they worked together to research crucial immune system proteins in the Summer Science Program—and how Drew is now helping Emily apply to graduate school in molecular biology.

Our Alumnae/i

From the start, Sarah Lawrence students realize that they are here not only to pursue a degree but also to make a life for themselves. In their four years of exploration and growth, they acquire a distinct ownership of their educations, a strength of commitment that carries them well beyond their peers. Some achieve renown in their fields; many exceed their highest expectations of success; all leave the College with a well-developed sense of who they are and the passion to discover what they might become. Along the way, as they change and find direction, our graduates have a way of coming into their own.

Why I Chose SLC

Meredith KaplanMeredith Kaplan '12
"SLC is an academic institution in which your teachers are not merely your teachers, but your guidance counselors, your friends, your intellectual others, and your supporters throughout your college experience."

Tomas MaccioTomas Maccio '11
"SLC had everything I was looking for: small classes with a focus on intellectual conversation; a diverse group of students; the ability to work one-on-one with help from teachers to produce a thoughtful, unique, and analytical body of written work; careful and experienced guidance from a faculty advisor.
