Morgan Asbridge
Snohomish, Washington
1st Semester
"My time here has given me the opportunity to express what I’ve learned creatively and analytically while teaching me that the two lenses can be used at the same time."
2nd Semester
Second semester, Morgan replaced sculpture with a poetry workshop. "It wasn’t something I thought I’d have an interest in," she says, "but it turned out I really loved it." She also delved into modern and postmodern art in her First-Year Studies course—"good background in the history of visual art, which is helpful in making my own artwork."
3rd Semester
The highlight of Morgan’s second year has been printmaking. "I just really love the medium," she says. "There are so many different techniques and paths you can take." For her conference work, she’s making a trilogy of books, silk screening sketches of family and childhood onto paper. "I feel comfortable with the two-dimensional way of working, bringing photography and collage and bookmaking together."
"Sarah Lawrence’s new Heimbold Visual Arts Center is a sign that art is important to the College and its students."
4th Semester
In her Aesthetics and History of Film course, Morgan is gaining a comprehensive overview of film history?focusing this semester on the entire history of French film. "It’s great because I’m getting an introduction to something new, and it feeds into the rest of what I’m interested in." She’s also taking Beginning Italian in preparation for next year, which she’ll spend abroad with the Sarah Lawrence in Florence program. In addition to a course combining drawing, painting and printmaking, she notes that the program will provide "lots of opportunities to view art."
