Student Services and Facilities

Automated Teller Machine (ATM)

An ATM is located in the Siegel Center in a locked area near Westlands Gate. The area is accessible from the outside of the building, and students must use their SLC ID card to gain entry to the room.

Student Identification Card (ID Card)

The College photo identification card is the “key” to various services. It is an ID card, meal card, front door key to larger buildings, and a cash value card that allows students to make copies, wash clothes, send a fax, buy stamps, and use vending machines in Bates, the library, the sports center, the MacCracken 24-hour study space, and Hill House. Students can add cash to their card in the cash machine room in the Siegel Center or online via the link on MySLC. Students must carry their ID at all times when on campus. Replacement IDs are processed at the Duplicating Center in North, Monday through Friday, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. If a student cannot make the regularly scheduled hours, they may call x2317 to arrange a time. The cost to replace a lost ID is $15. Please note, starting in 2008-09,“found” ID cards may not be reactivated. If a valid SLC ID card is lost, a new one must be made. In the event that a student is robbed or mugged, providing that the crime is reported to the local police (jurisdiction in which the crime happens) and to Public Safety, the replacement cost of the ID will be $10 to cover just the material costs.

Students should carry their SLC student ID at all times on campus. When a College official requests it, the ID must be presented or a public safety officer will accompany the student until the SLC ID can be presented or the student can be identified in another way.

Copying

The Duplicating Center is located in the North building. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. For convenience, there are two black and white copiers, one color copier, and one fax machine. Students are able to make copies and send or receive faxes. If anyone experiences problems at the post office or the Duplicating Center, the director can be reached at x2318.

In addition to the Duplicating Center, there are three copy machines in the library: one on the main level and two on the lower level. There is also one in the William Schuman Music Library in Marshall Field, one in the lower level of 45 Wrexham, and one on the second floor of Slonim House.

Lost and Found

Found articles are to be turned over to Westlands Desk or to the Operations and Facilities Office.

Practice Rooms

Music practice rooms are available in the basement of Marshall Field. Teaching studios may be used for practice before and after teaching hours only.

A sound-proof practice room for drummers is located in the basement of Dudley Lawrence. To be eligible to use the room, musicians must attend a drum room meeting during opening week to register with the Operations and Facilities Office. The room hours are: 5:30 p.m. to midnight, Sunday through Thursday; 5:30 p.m. to 1 a.m., Friday and Saturday. The room is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Registered musicians may pick up the room key at Westlands Desk.

Studios for dance practice are available after 5:30 p.m. to students enrolled in dance. The studios are located in MacCracken, the Performing Arts Center, and Titsworth. Time must be arranged through the dance department.

Shuttle Services

A shuttle service, staffed by the Student Patrol, is available most evenings from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. when residence halls are open. To contact the shuttle, call Westlands Desk, x2209. The shuttle van stops at Westlands Gate and Hill House every 10 minutes and can only drive students from one on-campus location to another.

When residence halls are open, there is a free evening/late night shuttle from Westlands Gate to the Bronxville train station, where Metro-North offers train service to New York City and White Plains. The shuttle delivers riders to all southbound trains and meets all northbound trains from 6:15 p.m. until 2:15 a.m. Riders must present a valid SLC ID card or guest pass to use the shuttle.

Televisions

A television for viewing the news is located in the Siegel Center lounge and is accessible 24 hours a day. There is also a television for public viewing in the Black Squirrel during the lounge’s normal business hours.

Vans

The College maintains a limited number of passenger vans and vehicles for College-sponsored activities. These include class trips, College-sponsored student activities, and Community Partnerships and athletics events.

Either a faculty or staff member must approve all requests, and the vans must have at least six passengers.Vans traveling more than an hour’s distance from the Bronxville campus must have a faculty or staff member in the van as either a passenger or registered driver.Vans may only travel a maximum of 500 miles from campus. No driver may drive more than five consecutive hours. On trips where the driving time exceeds five hours, there must be two registered drivers. During term time (because of the demand for vehicles), vans may be reserved for a maximum duration of three consecutive days.

The vice president of operations will hear requests for exceptions to this policy.

Vans must be scheduled in advance through a call to Operations and Facilities (x2385); the office will send a form or one can be picked up from the office. Last minute requests usually can’t be accommodated. Complete the form, with all appropriate staff or faculty signatures, and return it to the Operations and Facilities Office. At that time, the van reservation can be confirmed. It is strongly recommended that students reserve vans at least 72 hours in advance. If the van is being requested for a Student Senate-funded student activity, the Office of Student Activities must sign off on the form and provide planning assistance. Van reservations are unconfirmed until an authorized driver has been found.

The group requesting the van is responsible for driving the van, or for finding an authorized student driver. Start with the class or organization; check to see if there is an authorized driver among the students intending to go on the trip. If not, call the coordinator of student employment (x2572) at least one week prior to the scheduled trip. The coordinator will make every effort to help locate a driver, and is generally successful, but no guarantees can be made.

All student van drivers, even members of the class or organization taking the trip, must be paid for their work. The cost will be charged to the sponsoring program, department, or organization. (Participants in the trip will be paid just for driving time; other drivers, if they remain at the site of the trip, will be paid for that time as well.) Faculty should also supply directions when necessary and sign van drivers’ time sheets.

If the trip involves parking fees and tolls, the sponsor of the trip is responsible for obtaining money from the Controller’s Office and giving it to the van driver. The driver is then responsible for obtaining receipts and submitting them, along with any remaining cash.

If the trip is to NewYork City, the driver must either stay with the van at all times, or park in a parking lot; a van may not be parked on the street unless the driver stays with the van.

There are a limited number of vans available. Please schedule as far in advance as possible.

Van keys must be returned to the Operations and Facilities Office or Westlands Desk immediately upon returning to campus. Upon return to campus, drivers must “back” vans into the designated van spaces in Andrews Parking Lot.

Van drivers must honor the time frame for which the van was reserved. Late key return will result in the suspension of driving privileges. The earliest van keys can be picked up is 20 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time.

Operations and Facilities is not responsible for cleaning vans. It is the responsibility of the van driver to remind passengers to place garbage in the trash bags that are supplied to each driver and can be found in the key pouch. This will help eliminate the numerous complaints the Operations and Facilities Office receives regarding the filthy interiors of the College vans.

Van drivers must report any damage to vans immediately to Operations and Facilities or to Westlands Desk. Failure to immediately report damage will result in loss of driving privileges.

Unauthorized van trips for personal use are prohibited and will result in immediate suspension of driving privileges.

A complete list of rules and regulations is issued to every van driver and is available at Operations and Facilities.Van drivers are held responsible for all van regulations.

Vending Machines

There are vending machines in the library, sports center, Hill House, MacCracken 24-hour study space, and Bates, and adjacent to the post office. These machines are part of the One-Card System.
