Financial Aid
x2570—Westlands, first floor
Undergraduate Procedures
Sophomores, juniors, and seniors may apply for financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the College Scholarship Service Profile, and the Non-Custodial Parent Statement, if applicable. Both forms must be filed with the appropriate processing agency no later than February 1 for consideration for the following academic year. Deadlines are extremely important. Applications filed after the deadline will be considered as funds become available.
In addition to the FAFSA and Profile, copies of parent and student tax returns used to complete the financial aid applications must be received by the Office of Financial Aid no later than April 15. Notification of the following year’s awards will begin in early May.
Priority is given to renewal applicants who complete and submit their forms by the deadlines. Recipients can expect to have their aid re-awarded if they continue to demonstrate financial need and make satisfactory academic progress. It is the policy of the College that a student is considered to be making satisfactory academic progress as long as s/he is matriculated and is allowed to continue at the College by the Committee on Student Work. Students who, at the time of admission, are considered dependent upon parental resources remain so for Sarah Lawrence gift aid purposes throughout their undergraduate studies.
In the event information used to determine your financial aid eligibility changes or your ability to continue your studies at Sarah Lawrence comes into question, please contact the Office of Financial Aid in Westlands.
Graduate Procedures
The Office of Financial Aid awards financial aid to graduate students on the basis of need only. Financial need is determined by subtracting the student’s expected contribution from the total cost of education. After amounts for state grants and any outside scholarships are estimated, the Office of Financial Aid prepares a financial aid package to meet any remaining need.
Students who apply for federal aid by completing the FAFSA and Student Profile forms by the deadlines are automatically considered for all aid resources administered by Sarah Lawrence College.
Grants and student loans comprise the two elements of a Sarah Lawrence financial aid package. Every financial aid recipient is awarded a student loan as part of her or his package. The student is not required to accept a student loan in order to receive Sarah Lawrence College gift aid.
Two separate forms, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the College Scholarship Service Profile, must be filed in order to be eligible for the resources outlined above. The FAFSA form must be filed between January 1 and March 1.The Profile deadline is March 1.The Office of Graduate Studies will mail an updated copy of “Financing Your Graduate Education at Sarah Lawrence College” to all students accepted into graduate studies programs.
International Students: Sarah Lawrence College is regrettably unable to offer federal financial aid to students who are not citizens or permanent residents of the United States. However, foreign students may apply for Sarah Lawrence gift aid by filling out the International Application Form for Graduate Students.
You are able to download this form from the Sarah Lawrence Web site. International students are also advised to investigate other financing opportunities offered by their governments or private institutions.
