The Pre-Orientation Civic Engagement Program (POCE) gives students the opportunity to begin their time as a Sarah Lawrence student by giving back to the community.
POCE is a four-day program for incoming first-year students. Students live and work together doing community work in the city of Yonkers during the days leading up to orientation.
The group lives communally, sleeping on the floor of a church. Upperclass student leaders provide guidance to the first-year students, leading them through team-building activities, helping them navigate the community, and offering a glimpse into what the upcoming year might look like.

Without these experiences, I can say with 100 percent certainty, I would not be the person I am today.”—David Tierney ’17
