Annual Events
At SLC, there's always the opportunity to start a new tradition! Here's a look at some of our longstanding and most loved annual events.
Student Organization Fair
The annual Student Organization Fair provides students with an opportunity to learn about the various student groups available on campus, meet student leaders, ask questions, and join groups. We have two organization fairs during the year; one during Orientation and one during the Winter Carnival.
Fall Formal
Often held during Halloween weekend, this annual dance party brings out a mixture of elaborate costumes and semi-formal attire. Students dance the night away under a large tent on Westlands Lawn. This must-see event is attended by the majority of the undergraduate student body and creates a lot of buzz on campus!
Homecoming
Homecoming is a campus wide event focusing on building community and cheering on the Gryphon Basketball Team. The proceeds from the Homecoming game support the Students for Students Scholarship Fund (SSSF).
Midnight Breakfast
Each semester, the Sarah Lawrence Activities Council (SLAC) and AVI Fresh team up for Midnight Breakfast. These events include a huge breakfast buffet, music and lots of free give-aways!
Relaxation Stations
The Relaxation Stations happen each semester during the final week of classes and are intended to provide an opportunity for students to get out of the library and relax! Sponsored by SLAC, these events often include arts and craft projects, free food and drinks, prizes, and chair massages.
WinterFest
WinterFest is a week of activities focused on a common theme, which culminates in the annual Winter Carnival. Winter Carnival is an event hosted jointly by SLAC and the Department of Physical Education and Athletics. The celebration typically includes inflatable games, free food, novelties, and a Student Organization Fair.
SSSF Auction
The auction is an annual fundraiser for the Students for Students Scholarship Fund (SSSF). Students, faculty, staff, and alumni donate items and services, which become part of a silent and live auction. This event takes place in February.
SLC Spelling Bee
A new tradition at Sarah Lawrence, the annual Spelling Bee is a fun competition between students, faculty and staff.
Folk Festival
A day-long celebration of folk music coordinated by the SLC Folk Club.
Spring Formal
Similar to its counterpart in the Fall, Spring Formal is a much-anticipated annual event. At Sarah Lawrence, the word “formal” is often redefined, creating an eclectic mixture of casual and formal atmosphere. The Fall and Spring Formals are supported by the Student Engagement Fund.
Bacchanalia
An annual outdoor music festival, Bacchanalia closes the spring semester with a full day of music, food and fun! Bacchanalia is hosted by the senior class, and is funded by the Undergraduate Student Senate and the Office of Student Activities. The festival brings together over six hours of live music performances, covering a broad range of genres, as well as a host of other outdoor activities.
Mayfair
Mayfair is a community outreach event sponsored by SSSF. The event is an outdoor carnival involving crafts, games, and inflatables. Mayfair takes place in early May.
