Student Senate
The Student Senate is the governing organization of the student body. Its members consist of the following: senate chair; treasurer; four class presidents; two student representatives on each College committee (except the Advisory Committee); the chair of the students for Students Scholarship Fund Subcommittee (SSSF) and two SSSF senators; two members of the Student Activities Subcommittee; and two New Students-at-Large members. The senators are chosen by an election held every fall. Open positions are filled by elections as needed. The duties of the Senate subcommittees are as follows:
Student Activities Subcommittee (SAS)
Funding for student activities is collected from the student activities fee and most is allocated by the Student Activities Subcommittee. The members meet weekly to approve proposals for student-sponsored campus events and to coordinate the planning of these activities. The subcommittee is composed of two SAS senators, the senate treasurer, and the president of each class. A member of the Student Affairs Office attends meetings and acts as an advisor.
Students for Students Scholarship Fund (SSSF)
The SSSF is a joint committee of the Senate and the Student Life Committees. Several events and activities each year are organized by this subcommittee to raise money for the scholarship fund. The subcommittee is chaired by the SSSF chair, with class presidents and two SSSF senators serving as members. A member of the Student Affairs staff serves in an advisory capacity. The subcommittee welcomes any ideas for fund-raising activities.
Each year, the Students for Students Scholarship Fund hosts a fundraising auction in February.
