New York City
Sarah Lawrence's proximity to Manhattan (just 35 minutes away by car or train) makes it easy to enjoy the myriad cultural performances, museums, galleries and other venues in New York City.
Ways to Get Into the City:
- The Bee-Line Buses take about 20 minutes to take you to the Bronx from various stops surrounding campus. You can grab bus route pamphlets at Student Affairs; the ones to use to get to the Bronx are 20, 21, 25, 26, 40 and 52. Or, you can visit Bee-Line Buses online.
- The cheapest way to get into the city via Metro North trains is by ordering "webtickets" on the MTA Web site.
- After dark you can take the College's free shuttle van to the Bronxville train station. The shuttle van runs seven days a week from 5:45 p.m. to 2:15 a.m.
- Remember, the last train home to Bronxville from Grand Central is 1:30 a.m. Don't miss it!

Sign up on the Student Affairs bulletin board to take the Met Van to the city free of charge on weekends. The vans leave at 11am and 1pm on Saturday and Sunday and drop you off at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in midtown, right near Central Park.
Student-rate tickets for many of the musical events in Carnegie Hall, Town Hall, Metroplitan Opera and various studios are available from the music librarian. Programs for these events are posted on the bulletin board outside the William Schuman Music Library in Marshall Field. Students should check the Student Affairs office for student-rate tickets for theatre, special productions, circus and concert performances.
The Office of Student Activities runs a program called CityLinks. Funded through a generous donation from an SLC alumna, we purchase a block of tickets to a theater, music, dance or cultural event. We have sign-ups in the Student Affairs Office and then provide van transportation to the event. A faculty or staff member who leads a discussion following the event also accompanies the student group. The event is available free or at a nominal charge to the student.
