Security Officers
Security officers are College employees hired for your safety and security. These men and women are interviewed and screened by a panel, which includes an administrator, a security supervisor and 2 students. The security officers are trained, certified and registered in compliance with the New York State Security Act of 1992. The officers receive additional training by the College in various areas including AEDs, sexual crimes training, fire safety and CPR/first aid. They must obey and enforce the laws and regulations of the Federal Government, New York State, Yonkers and Sarah Lawrence College. The security officers do not have arrest powers above that of a private citizen. The college works closely with state and local police agencies/authorities where appropriate.
The officers patrol the campus on foot and in vehicles throughout the day and night. In addition to their regular patrol, the officers respond immediately to emergencies, escort students when the Student Shuttle is not running, open and close various facilities, patrol the parking areas, issue parking tickets, control and respond to all of the burglar & fire alarms and respond to "lockouts" (when a student locks him/herself out of a room or loses his/her keys). The Student Life Committee has determined that lockouts are the lowest priority in an officer's duties.
