Schedule of Events for Family Weekend 2011
Please note that additions will be made to this schedule and a final schedule will be provided to all families at the registration table on Friday, November 4 and Saturday, November 5. | 8:30 a.m. | Morning Bird Walk with Fred Baumgarten Meet on the Siegel Center front patio The Sarah Lawrence campus is one of the College’s special treasures, a superbly and naturalistically designed mélange of architectural gems, splendid gardens and centuries-old trees, surrounded by shady suburban lanes, woodlots and even small wetlands. A surprising array and diversity of bird life can be found here. Late October brings many migrating species making their way stealthily southward. Join us for a pleasant stroll around the campus to identify some of the common (and perhaps uncommon) avian inhabitants. Binoculars recommended. | 9:30–4:30p.m. | Student Art Show and Silent Auction Lower Level of Heimbold Visual Arts Building In its seventh year, this student-driven effort showcases the artwork of current students. This student committee makes student fundraising a reality at this fun exhibition and sale. Proceeds from the event support the Fund for Sarah Lawrence and the individual artists. Stop by and take a peek—you may discover a piece of student art that you simply cannot live without! |

| 11:00–1:00 p.m. | Lunchbox Theatre for the Siblings Performing Arts Center Lunchbox Theatre is a special Sarah Lawrence College Theatre Outreach Program for participants between the ages of 6 through 18 that explores theatrical techniques: vocal, movement, and improvisation. SLC students volunteer their time and talents to work with children and teenagers over the year. Lunches will be provided for siblings. Please note on the registration material how many children and/or teenagers will be participating. |
| 11:30–1 p.m. | Lunch and Activities for Siblings Westlands South Lawn, Tent Enjoy a festive lunch under the tent. There will be tasty fare, good company, and student musical performances featuring Treble in Paradise, Vocal Minority, and Res Miranda! Please present the meal ticket found in your registration packet for lunch. Students use your ID card to swipe in. |

Passion + Purpose = A Career You Love Learn how The Office of Career Counseling can assist students with discovering their passion and taking the steps to pursue a career they love! Hear about our programs and services and how students can get involved with our office as early as their first year. Please join Angela Cherubini, Director of Career Counseling, Anne Marie Damiani, Associate Director of Career Counseling, and a student panel as they discuss the career planning process at SLC, including the role of self-assessment, career exploration, gaining experience through internships, and networking. SLC Academics: Everything You’ve Wanted to Know But Were Too Afraid to Ask No grades, no majors, no requirements? Come and find out the real scoop about a Sarah Lawrence education. Deans Beverly Fox, Evelyn Leong, and Polly Waldman from the Dean of Studies Office will lead a discussion on what it means to be an SLC student. Beyond Sarah Lawrence: Study Abroad Programs Please join Prema Samuel, Director of International Programs, as she reviews how Sarah Lawrence seeks to incorporate the study abroad experience into students’ academic programs. Prema will also review financial aid and scholarship options. There will be time to speak with students who have studied in different programs around the world. Foundations: Supporting Your First Year Student Join Dr. Nance Roy, Director of Health Services and her staff, as they discuss ways you can help support your student as they find their way through the maze of increased responsibility toward adulthood and the transitions that occur during their time at Sarah Lawrence. Sharing the Student Experience Want to learn more about the student culture at Sarah Lawrence and how students can get involved? Please join Genevieve Hein from Student Affairs along with a student panel consisting of Resident Advisors and members of the Sarah Lawrence Activities Council to learn more about the student culture at Sarah Lawrence. |

| 10–11 a.m. | Early Morning Yoga Campbell Sports Center, Dance Studio Join us for an hour of yoga. Participants should avoid eating at least 2 hours prior to class and wear comfortable but fitted clothing that allows for movement without restriction. All levels welcome! |
| 11–3 p.m. | Brunch Bates Center for Student Life, Bates Common Dining Join your student for their favorite meal of the week, weekend brunch. Don’t miss out on the famous make your own Belgian waffle station. No need to sign up in advance - $9.55 + tax at the door. |
