Required Leave of Absence/Leave with Review
A leave from the College may be required by the dean of studies and student life or the dean of graduate studies if, in his/her judgment, one or more of the following criteria is met:
- The student’s behavior indicates a significant risk to the life or safety of self or others.
- The student exhibits behavior that interferes with his/her ability to function and/or seriously interferes with the educational pursuits of others.
- The student has a medical or mental health condition that cannot be reasonably accommodated by the College.
In such cases, the student will be placed on a leave with review, and the student’s re-entry to the College will be reviewed by the dean of studies and student life in consultation with other faculty or staff as appropriate. During the student’s leave, she/he will be expected to obtain treatment for the condition that warranted the leave, as outlined in the leave with review letter that she/he will receive from the dean of studies and student life. Documentation of such treatment from the medical providers involved will need to be submitted to the dean of studies and student life. Once the documentation is reviewed, the student will have an interview with the dean of studies and student life and/or the director of health services as part of the review process. Once the review is completed, the dean of studies and student life will notify the student of the final decision. The deadline for receipt of all required documentation is June 1 for fall readmission, and November 1 for spring readmission.
