During the admissions process and the summer before you leave, the program director and the International Programs Office will work closely with you to ensure that you select the appropriate tutorials for the first term. We recommend you choose course work closely aligned with your major or minor field of study at your home American college or university. We also suggest reviewing the course offerings on the Oxford Web site (www.ox.ac.uk) as a guide in choosing your tutorial subjects.

You and the program director will finalize your curriculum during the 10-day orientation in early October.

A faculty member always referred to as your tutor, will be assigned to teach each of your two tutorials based on his or her background and experience and on your level of interest and expertise in the subject matter. Tutorials are the centerpiece of Oxford’s educational experience, fostering intimacy, dialogue, commitment, and engagement. The tutorial becomes one of the most challenging and meaningful learning experiences that an undergraduate can have.

Besides the two tutorials, you will enroll in a core seminar: a weekly series of lectures and field trips designed to expand your understanding of your host country and its role in Europe and the world.
