Confidentiality and Reporting
If you wish to report a sexual assault to the police: You can go directly to the police. Staff from Health Services, the Public Safety Department, and/or the Office or Student Affairs are available to assist and support you through this process.
If you do not wish to report a sexual assault to the police: You can speak confidentially with a member of the Health Services medical or mental staff. They are available to provide information and emotional support confidentially, and can assist you in obtaining medical, emotional, and legal services as needed. For the safety and welfare of victims and the community as a whole, the Health Services medical and mental health staff will strongly encourage victims to report a sexual assault and will assist students in filing a report with the College and/or the police. The following hotlines are also confidential and anonymous: Victim Assistance Services Rape Crisis Hotline at 914-345-9111 or 1-800-726-4041, or the New York Gay & Lesbian Anti-Violence Project Hotline at 212-714-1141.
State law requires that the College inform the police when it become aware of a sexual assault on campus, even if the student involved does not want to report the incident. All College officials (i.e. College employees including faculty members, administrative staff, resident advisors, and Student Affairs graduate assistants) who become aware of a sexual assault must inform the Director of Public Safety, who will notify the police. Members of the Health Services medical and mental health staff are exempt from this law and you may speak confidentially with them. They can be reached at 914-395-2350 or ext. 2350. Additional confidential and anonymous support and assistance is available from the Westchester Victims Assistance Services hotline at (914) 345-9111.
