Community Partnerships
Sarah Lawrence College has a rich history of educating students for social responsibility, and a deep commitment to the integration of community-based learning. Through community work, students:
- deepen insights into their academic inquiry
- develop relationships with role models working to better society
- learn skills for community organizing, social service, and citizenship
- clarify personal career goals and values
The Anita L. Stafford Community Partnerships and Service Learning Program provides students with the opportunity to learn about and engage in social change through course study, community-based learning placements, immersion trips, advising, and service projects. The program serves as a hub for students and faculty interested in working for social changes in Yonkers, Westchester County, and New York City.
The primary focus of the program is community-based learning connected to a course; we have found this contextualization of community work to be more transformative and educational than community work done in isolation. So, look for ways that your course work may be enhanced by service work—and come see us for advising and support!
