Pre-Law Guide
Law school requires a significant amount of time, energy, hard work and financial resources. The decision to attend law school, therefore, is a serious one, and it should be approached with a good deal of thought and preparation.
There are several things you can do to determine your interest in pursuing a law career. Early exposure to the field is invaluable. It can offer opportunities to discover whether law is consistent with your values, interests, needs and abilities, and, if so, can provide experiences that can be helpful in the admissions process.
As a Sarah Lawrence student, you have the advantage of critical analysis through a breadth of intensive courses. This is a key strength for law school because writing, analytical and systematic approaches to ideas and problems, attention to and interest in details and fine distinctions, and a preference to be intellectually assertive and logical in expression are important skills.
The majority of those entering law school have a few years of practical experience; it is less common to apply fresh out of undergraduate school. Whatever your particular circumstances, exploration, evaluation and thorough preparation are of paramount importance.
