The Writing Institute open house features free writing workshop

The Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College is hosting a writing workshop and open house on Tuesday, September 2 from 4 – 6:30 p.m. on the College’s campus at 45 Wrexham Road. The Writing Institute is a supportive community for writers of all levels – from beginners to published authors. Fall noncredit classes begin in late September and will explore topics such as poetry, memoir, nonfiction, fiction, and screenwriting. The writing workshop and open house are free and open-to-the-public, but space is limited and advance registration is required. For reservations and more information, please call Sweet at (914) 395-2205 or email cce@sarahlawrence.edu.

Schedule as follows:

4 p.m. – Meet the Fall 2014 Writing Institute instructors who will be available to answer questions and guide you to the workshop that best suits you. Learn about the Gurfein Writing Fellowship – exclusively for Writing Institute students – which provides the recipient with a yearlong opportunity to work closely with a mentor on a writing project of their choice. Enjoy light refreshments and connect with other writers

5:30 p.m. – SLC faculty member and Writing Institute instructor Gerry Albarelli will lead a free workshop entitled Writing from Memory. Writers often draw on their own experiences as a source of inspiration and this workshop will start with a discussion of memory followed by a short writing assignment meant to conjure up vivid memories in language that conveys a sense of urgency and immediacy.
