Wondering whatever became of that dynamo who swore she’d overthrow the government in 1968? Or that cute classmate from 1973? Or your best girlfriend in modern dance class in 1957?
Now you can find out, thanks to the Alumanae/i Web Board, developed by the Office of Alumnae/i Relations. “A lot of people asked for it,” says Martha Fuller ’97, the office’s associate director. “Alums just want a way to talk to each other online.” After the Web Board was created, the office sent a letter announcing the site’s existence and how to use it. “We have nearly four hundred people signed up so far,” Fuller says. “We had expected maybe a hundred.”
The initial goal for the message board was networking, but alums’ desire to connect with one another on more social terms quickly created another niche for the site. Besides “Locating a Classmate,” the forums include “Career Networking,” “Relocation and Housing,” “SLC News and Events” and “Announcements.” The latter can include anything from the birth of a granddaughter to a swanky book party in Manhattan. “There’s nothing taboo on the board,” Fuller points out, “but please don’t sell anything, promote your business, or solicit our people. So far, it hasn’t been a problem.”
The board is private, and is not connected to the main Sarah Lawrence College Web site. To find out more about the Alumnae/i Web Board and easy instructions for signing on, contact the Office of Alumnae/i Relations at (914) 395-2530. Who knows who or what could be waiting for you there?
