The gallery of Sarah Lawrence alumnae/i, faculty and student artists has no walls.

It stretches across the country and around the world, and includes artwork in every existing medium and a growing number of conceptual and digital modes. The works are beautiful, disturbing, familiar, unusual, soothing, provoking, concrete, elusive, memorable, evanescent: a complex mix of meanings and styles that inspire, infuriate and—from their sheer number and variety—ultimately overwhelm.

We present you with an imaginary exhibition from this gallery- without-walls. It includes but a tiny percentage of artists, a mere glimpse of the community oeuvre, an impossibly narrow selection of works in a ridiculously limited mix of media. But if only a random sampling offers so much creative punch, just imagine the impact of the ever-growing world of those artists who were taught—or who teach—at Sarah Lawrence.
