On April 28, three dancers from the Manhattan-based Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater gave a lecture/demonstration to children from the Early Childhood Center, teaching them about dance through observation and participation.

The dancers asked the children to name things that came to mind when they heard the word “dance” (“hopping around,” “action,” “smart”), performed an excerpt from the piece “The Winter in Lisbon,” choreographed to music by Dizzy Gillespie, and then invited many of the children up on stage to learn movements adapted from the ballet “Apex.”
