Moving on

In the fall President Myers announced that she and Dean of the College Barbara Kaplan will retire from the College after the end of the 2006-07 academic year. "I'm proud of our achievements," Myers wrote in announcing her decision, "staying true to the heart of Sarah Lawrence while moving the institution forward. I have found an intellectual home at an institution whose values I share. But it is time for me to turn to other priorities." In 2005, Myers said, Dean Kaplan celebrated her 30th year at the College. "Barbara is so much a part of Sarah Lawrence; it is almost impossible for any of us to imagine the school without her wisdom," the president wrote. "We are beginning the process for replacing her with a new dean, drawn from the senior faculty." The new dean will serve part-time at Kaplan's side in the coming academic year, then begin a two-year term in 2007.
Board of Trustees Chairman Robert Riggs said Myers "has done it all in the eight years she has been at the College. Under her guidance, Sarah Lawrence has grown and prospered."
