STATEMENT
“I was born and raised in Petersburg, Virginia, in the segregated South. I was out of school before the Supreme Court decided to even begin taking on the issue of segregation. At Sarah Lawrence, I felt like everything was possible. Academically. Artistically. Personally. I left the country for the first time on a Sarah Lawrence field trip to Puerto Rico with a sociology class. Then I spent my junior year in France. I was the first person in my family to go abroad. Sarah Lawrence opened up a new world for me.”
