STATEMENT

“I grew up in Upper Michigan in a tiny town. One of my high school teachers, Cynthia Coleman, happened to be an SLC alum. She said, ‘You should go to Sarah Lawrence and study Dickens with Ilja Wachs.’ I thought I could never afford to go, but I received a full scholarship. Growing up, I felt as though the real exciting events were happening somewhere else, and I wanted to be part of the action. I was able to attend Sarah Lawrence because a lot of people gave a little gift, and I hope that my small gifts will help others in the same way. And I did end up studying Dickens with Ilja Wachs.”
