Pauline Watts Appointed Interim Dean
The Educational Policies Committee of the Board of Trustees has unanimously approved the appointment of Pauline Watts ’62 to be Interim Dean of the College. In the upcoming academic year, Watts will serve as Dean on a part-time basis, working alongside Barbara Kaplan, the current Dean, to observe and learn the specific systems, protocols, and rhythms of the Dean's office. Upon Kaplan's retirement at the end of 2006-07, Watts will take on full-time responsibility as the Interim Dean of the College for a two-year term, ending in 2008-09.
Watts has been a member of the European History faculty for more than twenty years. During that time, she has demonstrated her commitment to academic leadership by serving on the Committee on Student Work, the Graduate Committee, the Curriculum Committee, the Nominating Committee and the Advisory Committee.
“Pauline is a dedicated member of the faculty, well-prepared for the challenges of academic leadership and administration that come with the position of Dean of the College,” said President Michele Myers in announcing the appointment. “She will help facilitate the new President's introduction to the College and its pedagogy, and help ensure a smooth transition in college leadership.”
