Indexed full-text articles, reviews, fiction, poetry, and drama from scholarly journals in the humanities and social sciences. Emphasis is on literature and criticism, history, the visual and performing arts, cultural studies, education, political science, and gender studies. Coverage starts in 1995, but the bulk of articles are from 2000 to the present.

  TRUNCATION

Truncate with an asterisk (*) at the ends of terms only, eg. modern* to retrieve modern, modernity, modernism, etc.

    

 BOOLEAN OPERATORS

  

Boolean operators can be used from both Basic and Advanced Search screens. Type in the operators when using Basic Search; in Advanced Search, select Boolean operators from the drop down menus.

  

AND

where both terms are present

where either term is present

excludes the second term 

 LIMITS

  

Project Muse allows you to limit search results from the Advanced Search screen by using available drop down menus.

  

Type

The default will search all available documents. Use this drop down menu to limit your search to articles, reviews, poetry, fiction, or drama.

  

Date

Enter the range of years you wish to search in the available boxes. Enter a year in the left box only to designate a search from that year forward. Enter the same date in both boxes to designate a specific year.
  

Journal

You can limit your search by individual journal titles or by subject groups. To limit your search to specific titles, select from the list. Make multiple selections or "de-select" a selection by holding down the control or command key. To search groups of journals by general subject areas, use the drop down menu to select "All Muse Titles by Subject," and then select from the available subject groups.

JSTOR

Broaden your search to include full-text articles from JSTOR. From the Advanced Search screen, click the radio button labeled "Include Articles from JSTOR Back Issues."
 

LC Subject headings

Project Muse indexes using Library of Congress subject headings, so you can search using the same vocabulary you do in the catalog.
 

Sort

Use the Sort By pull-down menus to sort by relevance, date, or journal title.
