1. Research Consultations

Individual research consultations are available by appointment. A research consultation provides the opportunity for an individual student to meet with a reference librarian to discuss library resources and search strategies for an assignment, conference work, term paper, research project or thesis. Request forms for consultations are available at the Information Desk.  You may also submit a request for a research consultation online.

2. "Ask a Reference Question".  Email service for reference questions.

In response to electronic inquiries from students the reference librarians can answer brief, factual questions, recommend search strategies and resources, explain library policies and procedures and make referrals. If the reference question requires in-depth research the librarian may recommend that the student submit a research consultation instead.  "Ask a Reference Question"

3. Database Searching Consultations

Database searching consultations are available by appointment. A database consultation provides the opportunity for an individual student to meet with a reference librarian to get a general introduction to our subscription databases or to gain knowledge of one particular database.  You may submit a request for a database consultation online.

4. Referrals to other libraries

The reference librarians can provide referrals to some libraries within the New York metropolitan region. Students should start by searching other library catalogs. Once a source is located in a library other than Sarah Lawrence, the reference librarian can call that library to try to arrange access to the collection for the SLC student.
