membership fees are used to provide the Library with significant funds for
acquisitions and archival support. Some
accomplishments this year: -
Provided
funds for the database Early American Newspapers (1690-1876), "a unique,
webbased archive of Americana that provides a fascinating glimpse into our nation's
past. The Early American Newspaper Collection will feature the images and full-text
content from scores of historical publications."

funds for the charter membership for ARTstor- ARTstor
is a non-profit organization created by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
As part of its ongoing effort to become a community resource, ARTstor is developing
a rich digital library that will offer coherent collections of art images and
descriptive information as well as the sortware tools to enable active use of
the collections. The ARTstor Library's initial content will include approximately
300,000 images covering art, architecture, and archeology. ARTstor's initial software
tools will support a wide range of pedagogical and research uses including: viewing
and analyzing images through features such as zooming and panning, saving groups
of images online and offline. This community resource will be made available for
educational and scholarly uses that are noncommercial in nature. - Celebrated
the 75th Anniversary of Sarah Lawrence College by sponsoring two literary events.
A tribute to Jane Cooper, poet and a member of the writing faculty who taught
at the college from 1951-1987. In April, the Friends hosted "An Evening with
Ann Patchett," SLC alum and author of the prize-winning novel Bel Canto.
