Acquisitions guidelines

For faculty members who have placed orders for library materials with the collection development librarian or through the Reserves Dept., the following are general guidelines for the time needed for that order to be placed, received, and fully processed. If there is a time frame within which a book is needed, please include that information with the request. This information is particularly important when we receive notification that an item is on backorder.

Domestic books, videos, DVDs, etc.: Rush and reserve orders generally take 2 weeks; regular orders take from 2 weeks to several months. Items from very small publishers and backordered titles will be among those orders that take longest.

Foreign books, videos, etc.: Rush and reserve orders generally take 2-6 weeks; regular orders may take several months. Once again items from very small publishers and backordered titles will be among those orders that take longest.

Domestic periodicals subscriptions: Allow 2-3 months for a subscription to make its appearance on our shelves; please note that some titles may only be available on a calendar year or other basis.

Foreign periodicals subscriptions: Allow 3-4 months for the subscription to begin; these may or may not come by airmail depending on the delivery options offered by our vendor.

Out-of-print material: Occasionally we cannot find a vendor. Any help with locating a source for an out-of-print item will be greatly appreciated.

Notification: If you wish to know when a requested item comes in or wish it to be put on hold, please tell us at the time of the request.

***We do our best to fill each and every order, and we appreciate your patience and understanding.
