On September 8th, more than 450 members of the Sarah Lawrence community turned out to support victims of Hurricane Katrina at a Poetry & Potluck event. The event was organized by two first-year students—Aja Monet and Dylan Morgan. Aja and Dylan arranged to bring to campus some of the hottest poets on the scene, including The Last Poets, Mahogany Browne, Jive Poetics, Elizabeth Acevedo, Michael Cirelli, Fish, Celena Glenn, K Swift, Kasim Allah, Iyaba Ibo Mandingo, Lemon and many more. Prior to performances by each of these poets, attendees enjoyed a catered
dinner generously donated by restaurants and business from the local community. At the end of the night, more than $7,000 was raised for the NAACP Disaster Relief Fund.
