Program Director and Staff
Monique Middleton, Director
As Director, Monique is responsible for the overall functioning of the Program. She overseas the academic part of the Program and advises students on all academic matters. Monique was born and grew up in France. She holds a degree in French literature from the Sorbonne, an M.A. in Comparative Literature from the University of Massachusetts and a PhD in French literature from Yale University. A specialist in 18th century literature, Monique’s areas of interest also include francophone literature and cultural differences. She enjoys reading, sports and travel.
Natalie Allen, Activities Coordinator and Administrative Assistant
Natalie is responsible for the “extra-curricular” part of the Program, which includes cultural activities, exchanges with French students and other aspects of student life (personal activities, volunteer work, etc). In addition, she provides administrative support for the Program Director. Natalie grew up in San Francisco and holds a bachelor’s degree in French language and literature from Columbia University. In addition to working at Sarah Lawrence, she is currently pursuing a master’s degree in French literature at the University of Paris 3–Sorbonne Nouvelle. Her hobbies include reading, cooking and dance.
Erin Reeser and Amelia Spooner, General Assistants
General assistants to the SLC Program, Erin and Amelia are responsible for its administrative aspects: residency permits, university enrollment, transcripts, classrooms and materials, communication with French and American universities, etc. They work in the main office and ensure the general functioning of the program on a daily basis.
Erin Reeser
As a student, Erin spent three years studying abroad in France: once in high school, once in college and once in graduate school. She holds a bachelor's degree from Illinois Wesleyan University in French, English and Western European studies. After beginning doctoral work at Emory University, Erin found her passion for working in study abroad programs and decided to pursue it as a career. Erin enjoys film, good food and spending time with her son.
Amelia Spooner
Amelia grew up in Los Angeles and later earned a bachelor’s degree in American history and anthropology at Columbia University. In addition to working at Sarah Lawrence, she is currently pursuing a master’s degree in history at the University of Paris 1–Sorbonne. In her free time, Amelia enjoys wine tasting and playing music.
