Application and Fees
Students interested in applying for the Modern European Theatre Program should contact Sarah Lawrence College directly.
Admission to the Program is highly selective. Applicants must be in their junior or senior year at College or University and possess the requisite GPA and, in addition, will be required to submit a piece of work as part of the application process, as outlined below.
All applicants should choose ONE of the following plays:
The Caucasian Chalk Circle by Bertolt Brecht
Cloud Nine by Caryl Churchill
Happy Days by Samuel Beckett.
Applicants selecting the Design elective should submit a set design (1 drawing) and costume designs (2 characters) for the play they choose. Those selecting the Directing elective should submit a ‘pitch' paper (no more than 1500 words) explaining their choice of play and their approach to directing it. Those selecting the Playwriting elective should submit a dialogue (no more than 3 minutes in length in performance), a short story or poem (no more than 1500 words) inspired by their choice of play.
Applicants DO NOT need to demonstrate extensive experience of, only enthusiasm for and dedication to, their chosen elective. This is intended as a test of initiative and imagination—there is no set format. We are interested in discovering how applicants respond to the play of their choice and the task of translating it into performance.
Applications must be accompanied by a non-refundable fee of $40.00 and must be mailed by November 1.

Fees and Financial Aid
The tuition charge for the 2011-12 program is $22,110 per semester. The tuition charge includes all scheduled trips and excursions, special events, tickets, and library fees. Students are responsible for their own travel costs to and from the program. The charge for room is $4,900 per semester.
Sarah Lawrence students who normally receive aid may apply their awards to the programs abroad. Sarah Lawrence financial aid is available to guest students attending the Modern European Theatre program, but guest students should also explore several potential sources of aid: 1) loans available from local banks, state agencies, or through the Perkins Loan Program; 2) in most cases, the guest students' home institutions may apply an ongoing financial aid award to a program abroad; 3) many institutions allow students full access to their current financial aid package. The Office of Financial Aid at your home institution can provide information about grants, loans and procedures for applying.
Insurance
All students must be adequately covered by medical insurance while they are abroad and must complete the Sarah Lawrence College Health Form. A special insurance policy is available to participating students who have not made other arrangements.
