Exceptions
: Anything with food stains, which contaminate: no pizza boxes, Chinese food containers, used paper coffee cups, tissues, etc.
Metal
Rinse if possible.
All aluminum and tin, including soda cans, soup cans, etc.
Plastic
Rinse if possible
All plastic bottles and containers, cups, etc. Caps are fine.
Exceptions
: plastic bags, but most supermarkets have bins to collect plastic bags that are free of food and paper
Glass
Rinse if possible.
All glass containers.
Exceptions
: The heavy plastic in which some Chinese food and deli soups are contained.
