Through the Community Writers Program, Sarah Lawrence graduate writing students teach workshops, tutor or assist a writer-in-residence in the classroom. Support and training for writers in the Community Writers Program have included a monthly practicum and a series of workshops throughout the academic year. Students also have access to the Teaching Resource Center, an extensive collection of books related to teaching writing. Placements are available at a variety of traditional and non-traditional settings, and have included:

- The Bronx Academy of Letters
- Concourse House (Bronx, NY)
- State University of New York at Purchase
- Teachers & Writers Collaborative
- The Westchester County Correctional Facility
- Westchester County Department of the Aging
