Alumnae/i Update
Carole Artigiani ’79 is one of 34 profiles in a new publication titled Graduate Education and the Public Good, from the Council of Graduate Schools. She was also one of three representing master graduates at a legislative forum in Washington, D.C.
Stephanie Boccher Frost ’84 is currently the Vice President for Advancement at Fairfield University. She joined Fairfield 18 months ago after spending 12 years in fundraising at Yale University, most recently as Director of Major Gifts.
Staci Dixon ’98 has been working at CARE for almost a year as the Web editor (www.care.org). All those days spent studying women’s empowerment and long nights editing her thesis are coming in handy. Despite her lofty dreams of moving back to NY, Boulder, or the West Coast, she is closing on a house in the little, cool town of Decatur, GA, at the end of May; she will have plenty of room for everyone to visit!
Desiree Monet Fields ’06 is currently living and working in Seoul, Korea. She is quickly learning the Korean language while teaching English to middle school students and adults. While living in Korea, Desiree has traveled around Southern Italy, Hong Kong, and Bangkok and Chiang Mai Thailand. In Thailand, she went elephant riding, white water rafting, hiking, swimming in a waterfall, and got to experience delicious and diverse foods.
Shelly Henderson ’01 recently passed the licensing exam for clinical psychology in the state of CA. She has been appointed to the faculty at UC Davis Medical Center, Dept. of Family & Community Medicine; she will serve as the Director of Behavioral Medicine and Training Director for the Psychology Internship program.
Diana Jimenez ’09 was thrilled to be accepted to the 19th International Summer School on Human Rights in Warsaw, Poland.
Ryoko Kurihara ’85 There isn’t enough space to list all of Ryoko’s publications but here are a few highlights: in 2007, Ryoko co-authored an article titled “Feminism: American Feminism Today” in a series called American Studies Across the Border, Volume 4 (Mineruba Publishing Inc., Tokyo, June 2007). Other publications include First Wave Feminism in the United States (Domesu Publishing Inc., 2008) and “Woman Suffrage Movement in the United States” published in Women’s History (Aoki Publishing Inc., 2009). Ryoko is now teaching as a part-time lecturer.
Angela Lupton ’06 is living in Kansas City, MO. She and Jenni McSpadden were married in 2006 and moved to Kansas City to be near Angela’s family. Angela works for the North Kansas City School District with children with autism, and she is learning to build furniture in her spare time.
Jessica Matthews ’99 is also known professionally as “Rabbit.” She is an ordained High Priestess of a Goddesscentered spiritual community in Berkeley, CA. She makes her living as an intuitive reader and co-owner of The Sacred Well, a metaphysical shop in Oakland. Rabbit studied mythology, drumming, shamanic practices, and various forms of classical divination in preparation for her priestesshood. Marylyle McCue ’01 is currently living in Philadelphia, PA, and working on a master’s degree in Library Science at Drexel University. She hopes to graduate in March 2009 and work in either an academic or special collections library. As she attends school, Marylyle is working as an intern in the reference department at the University of Pennsylvania’s Van Pelt Library.
Bergita Nokaj ’08 is beginning her new career at the Westchester Children’s Museum. Her title is Development Assistant.
Margot Note ’04 is working as an archivist and information manager for the World Monuments Fund in New York City.
Josh Reigel ’04 is working as a paralegal for the American Civil Liberties Union Women’s Rights Project. The Women’s Rights Project works to ensure that women and their families can enjoy the benefits of full equality and participation in every sphere of society.
Natalie Rose ’04 moved from Brooklyn, NY, to East Lansing, MI, to start her doctoral degree in U.S. history at Michigan State University. Her focus will be women, gender and religion. She is very eager to start this next chapter of her life. She says hello to all from the 2004 class!
Erica Rubin Irish (Millete) ’00 has started a research services business. The Web site address is http://ericarubinirish.com. She is excited about her work, describing it as a research business with a focus on travel, history, culture, and geography.
Amy (Natty) Sviedenverg ’09 presented her work at the Women’s and Gender History Graduate Symposium at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Amy was also awarded a grant from the Institute for Anarchist Studies and plans to publish her article, “Apex: Locating Cascadia Forest Defense in Feminism, Anarchism, and Queer Theory.”
Rachelle Sussman ’98 and her husband welcomed their daughter, Maribel, into the world on November 29, 2007; the family lives in Jackson Heights, Queens. Rachelle is a Ph.D. student in media, culture, and communication at NYU, and is now beginning work on her dissertation.
Jessie Wilkerson ’06 is starting her doctoral studies in the field of history at the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill this fall.
