The Dance/Movement Therapy Program

Program Requirements

The M.S. Degree in Dance/Movement Therapy can be completed on a full-time basis in two years. It requires completion of 60 credits. Clinical internships totaling 700 hours, with at least 350 hours of direct client contact, are required. Internship placements include clinical settings such as therapeutic preschools or community programs, elementary or secondary schools, or child-life programs on pediatric wards, adult psychiatric hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, and nursing homes.

Clinical fieldwork is also a requirement of the program. Fieldwork provides opportunities for observation, research, and practicum experience with children. First-year placements at the Early Childhood Center, the campus laboratory preschool, allow students to study typically developing children from ages 2 through 6.

Finally, in their second year, Dance/Movement Therapy students develop a project that culminates in a master's thesis. Interdisciplinary thesis projects are encouraged.
