Admission to the Dance/Movement Therapy Program
Applicants for the Dance/Movement Therapy graduate program must have received a Bachelor of Arts or equivalent degree from an accredited college or university. Previous college work is expected to be at 3.0 or higher and should reflect advanced course study. Students are accepted on a full-time basis only.
Complete the online application form, inclusive of the essay, that applies to your program of interest.
A nonrefundable application fee of $60 must be submitted via mail along with other required documents. Payments must be made by check or money order to Sarah Lawrence College.
An official transcript from each undergraduate and graduate institution you have attended is required. Only official transcripts sent directly by the institution to Graduate Studies at Sarah Lawrence College will be accepted. It is the applicant's responsibility to see that official transcripts (one copy only) from all colleges and universities attended are sent directly from each school to the Graduate Studies Office (have them specify program on envelope).
Please send two letters of recommendation using our recommendation form from people who know you well enough to give an informed opinion as to your intellectual ability for sustained academic effort. If you are unable to contact former teachers, we welcome letters from others, such as employers, who can make similar assessments. Preferably, one of those should be from a person in your field of interest.

Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are not required for admission to Sarah Lawrence College.
International Applicants/TOEFL Results
Individuals whose native language is not English must include official scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Information concerning TOEFL may be obtained by writing: TOEFL, Educational Testing Service, Princeton, NJ 08541. Request that the results are sent to Sarah Lawrence College, ETS code 2810. Statement of Objectives and Goals/Writing Sample
Please make sure to include all writing materials with each sheet clearly labeled, indicating the specific question being answered. Please address each question according to indicated or reasonable length (generally at least 1 page if not indicated). All materials must be typed. Any additional material, which represents your ability to pursue graduate study, would be welcome.
- Please write an essay of approximately 1,000 to 1,500 words covering the following topics:
- A description of your dance training and experience.
- A description of your experience with service learning, social service work, volunteer history or cross-cultural experiences.
- An explanation of why you wish to pursue graduate work in Dance/Movement Therapy, and how you plan to utilize this training.
The preferred application deadline is March 1, but applications will be accepted through July 15.
Application deadlines are the same for non-U.S. applicants as for U.S. citizens and permanent residents.
An on-site group dance/movement assessment and interview are important components of the application process. International applicants and others who are not able to travel to the Sarah Lawrence campus should contact the Graduate Studies office to make alternate arrangements.
