How to Apply
- Applications will be considered only when all required materials have been received. Download and complete the essay application that applies to your program of interest and return to the Graduate Studies Office with a $60 non-refundable application fee. Financial aid forms are mailed to applicants after January 1.
- Applicants must arrange for two letters of recommendation to be sent directly to the Graduate Studies Office. These should be requested of people competent to assess your ability and promise for graduate study (there are no standard recommendation forms). If you are unable to contact former teachers, letters from employers of volunteer or paid jobs who are capable of making a similar assessment will be welcome.
- It is the applicant's responsibility to see that official transcripts (one copy only) from all colleges and universities attended are sent directly from each school to the Graduate Studies Office (have them specify program on envelope).
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are not required for admission to Sarah Lawrence. Any additional material that represents your ability to pursue graduate study is welcome.
Interviews
For all programs except Writing and Women's History, an interview is an important part of the application process and will be arranged by invitation after all materials have been reviewed. If travel to Sarah Lawrence would be a burden, alternatives may be arranged. However, all applicants are encouraged to visit the campus and learn about the Sarah Lawrence program.
To arrange a visit, candidates may contact Graduate Studies at (914) 395-2371. Tours of the entire campus are given daily on the hour during the week.
