It's Back! Congress Restores IRA Rollover Provision
Extended through December 31, 2009
Congress recently reenacted the law permitting donors to make tax-free distributions to charity from their IRAs.
If you are 70 ½ or older, the federal government once more permits you to roll funds over from your IRA to charity without claiming any increased income or paying any additional tax. These tax-free rollover gifts can total up to $100,000 in a single year.
The charitable transfer counts toward satisfying your required minimum IRA distribution. You will not, however, receive a charitable deduction for the gift. All rollover gifts must come directly from the IRA trustee or custodian.
For more information on making an IRA rollover gift, please contact Annetta Love, Director of Gift Planning, at (914) 395-2543 or alove@sarahlawrence.edu.
