Michele Tolela Myers

For nine years, President Michele Tolela Myers has been the star of the show at Sarah Lawrence College. At Curtain Up, she’ll take her final bow before retiring this summer, and we in the Sarah Lawrence community will applaud her professional accomplishments and passion for the College in a one-of-a-kind, light-hearted celebration.

Since her debut at the College in 1998, Michele has taught us to invest in the present—the students, faculty, and the physical campus—while also planning for the College’s future. From leading the campaigns to build the Monika A. and Charles A. Heimbold, Jr. Visual Arts Center and to renovate Bates, to advancing student scholarships and faculty resources, her stellar direction has earned rave reviews for enhancing the College’s strength as well as its sense of community.

Of course, Sarah Lawrence isn’t the only institution that has been graced by Michele’s outstanding performance—her contributions to the larger stage of higher education have been rewarded with several honorary degrees and other recognitions. As part of the Curtain Up festivities, she’ll accept an impressive new honor: representatives of the French government will present Michele (a dual citizen of the U.S. and France) with that nation’s highest honor, the Légion d’Honneur.

Michele Tolela Myers may be stepping off the College stage, but Sarah Lawrence won’t soon forget her blockbuster performance. Curtain up!

The Scholarship Fund

The Sarah Lawrence scholarship program enables the College to recruit a diverse student body. The College determines financial aid awards to incoming students on the basis of need, motivation for learning and the potential for active participation in the campus community. Fifty percent of our undergraduates receive financial aid.
