Deanna Barenboim

BA, Sarah Lawrence College. MA, PhD, University of Chicago. Special interests in political and psychological anthropology; transnational migration, diaspora, and mobilities; global indigeneity; ethnicity and race; cultural performance; ethnographic writing; Maya peoples, languages, and cultures; Mexico and Latin America. Ethnographic fieldwork in Yucatán, Mexico, and in indigenous migrant communities of Northern California. Current research focuses on the intersections of undocumented status and indigenous identity in the Maya diaspora. Recipient of grants and fellowships from the US Department of Education and National Science Foundation. SLC, 2009–
