Graduate Studies in Child Development

The Master of Arts program in Child Development explores the life of the child as the interaction of intellectual, emotional, social, and imaginative streams. It combines extensive study of primary theoretical perspectives with practical fieldwork.

With on-campus resources that include the Child Development Institute and the Early Childhood Center, Sarah Lawrence's graduate program in Child Development provides opportunities for practical fieldwork with children and in-depth study of the latest research. In close consultation with faculty, students develop an individual plan of study that culminates in an original thesis project

Dr. Susan Linn, psychologist, writer, award-winning producer, and puppeteer, is Associate Director of the Media Center of Judge Baker Children’s Center; Instructor in Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School; and co-founder and director of the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood. She has written extensively about the effects of media and commercial marketing on children.
