After 25 years of living abroad, Sheila Miller Bernson '71 returned to the United States—and to Sarah Lawrence College. Armed with plenty of material courtesy of her time overseas, but saddled by the demands of the day-to-day, Sheila turned to the Writing Institute to help put her stories on paper. In her December 2011 TED talk on the possibilities open to us in life’s third act, Jane Fonda refers to the Writing Institute and calls the late Neil Selinger, a longtime student, “the embodiment of mounting the staircase in his third act.“ Fonda also mentions the Institute and instructor Steve Lewis in her book Prime Time: Creating a Great Third Act.
