The dates for the summer session of the Health Mediation Program are June 19-22 from 8:30-5 p.m.

Please note: The following agenda is subject to change and the times WILL change slightly for the summer session.

Day 1

9:00- 10:00	Game of Life (debrief) exploring the competitive nature of conflict Difference between Negotiation, Arbitration and Mediation
10:00- 11:00	Reading (goals of mediation and mediator’s mindset) Positions, Interest/Needs and their relationship to the competitive nature of conflict
11:00- 12:00	Fishbowl - Exercise: Watch a mediation role play chart : 1. What you saw, 2. Stages, & 3. Needed Skills. Large group debrief
12:00- 12:40	Stage 1: Building Trust and Setting the Stage Opening Statement (Explanation) What’s In It and Why? Writing of the Opening Statement Practice in Group
12:40- 1:30	Lunch Break
1:30- 2:00	Brainpower video and Discussion
2:00- 2:45	Stage 2: Information Gathering Reflecting, Reframing, Paraphrasing, Summarizing

Day 2

9:30- 10:15	1st Role-play thru Gathering Information, small group debrief and large group debrief
10:15- 11:25	Stage 3: Indentifying the Issues and Setting the Agenda What are the issues? Exploring with parties what they need to resolve or address and how they wish to do that. Exploring Interests, Needs & Emotions.
11:25- 12:40	1st Role-play; part 2- thru Agenda Setting Small group debrief and large group debrief
12:40- 1:30	Lunch Break
1:30- 1:50	The Bikers – Large group exercise exploring preconceptions and bias; how that can impact mediation, collaboration and negotiation
1:50- 2:50	Stage 4: Finding Common Ground Brainstorming and Negotiation Interest based vs. Rights based; Zero Sum vs. Integrative Negotiation, how to get the brainstorm started if parties are stuck?
2:50- 3:30	Stage 5: Agreement Agreement; knowing when its time (What should be in it? What can be in it? What should not be in it? & Ethical Considerations )
3:30- 4:30	2nd Role-Play in its entirety -All Stages, small group debrief and large group debrief
