Sports Quiz Winner

Congratulations to Jack McDonnell '97, who aced last issue's sports quiz and won an Amazon gift certificate.

You can still take the quiz, or just check out the correct answers -- including an explanation of the mysterious Pink Kittens.

Letters to the Editor

Does sports reporting go against the spirit of Sarah Lawrence? Read letters to the editor -- and our responses -- and post your own views in our new editor's forum on One Mead Way. Because nothing's more Sarah Lawrence than animated discussion about written material…and we like it that way.

Faculty on the Road

San Francisco

Save the Date

Palm Beach, Fla.
Sunday, January 27
Special Guest:
Thomas Lux, poetry faculty

Check the calendar for upcoming events in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Boston.

Savor this issue, because what with all of the holiday excitement -- and winter break to boot -- there will be no Alumnae/i Community Update in January. Have a peaceful holiday season!

Holiday Cheer in NYC

NY Metro Holiday PartyLast night's holiday party was a blast. President Karen Lawrence joined 250 New York area alumnae/i at the Bryant Park Grill for a healthy dose of holiday cheer.

Take a look at the photos to extend the good times.

Thought for Food

FoodWhile many of us are busy contemplating turkey, latkes, pies, and all the comestible trappings of the holiday season, some Sarah Lawrence students are concentrating on a more basic question: How to get food to people who don't have enough to eat. Read more

Alumnae/i Accomplishments

As usual, alumnae/i across the country are accomplishing neat stuff this month:

Two alums are currently vying for prizes: A composition by Monique Lukens MFA '97 won first place in the IFI Electronica Genre Contest and is competing for the grand prize; Denise J. Hart MFA '99 is a semi-finalist in the Eugene O'Neill National Playwrights Conference for her drama "This Joy." Best of luck to them both!

Just in time for the holidays, Emily Franklin '94 published How to Spell Chanukah: 18 Writers Celebrate 8 Nights of Lights. She'll be reading from the book at the Upper West Side Jewish Community Center in Manhattan at 7 p.m. on December 10.

Jeannine Jones '98 directed "No Entrance" at the Bridge Theatre in NYC in November; Matt Stapleton '05 was one of the performers.

The first mystery novel by Eugenia L. West '44 is coming out this month. Without Warning involves an ex-opera singer, the illegal weapons trade, and, of course, murder.
