The Learning Child Series

The Learning Child is a series of documentaries produced for public television by Jonathan Diamond Associates and guided by the faculty of the Child Development Institute. The documentaries represent the view that intellectual, social and imaginative growth, as well as specific skills such as literacy, develop optimally in the context of activities that are inherently meaningful to the child.

In July, psychologist, writer, award-winning producer, and puppeteer Dr. Susan Linn delivered the annual Thomas H. Wright lecture presented by the Child Development Institute. The topic of the lecture was, Consuming Kids: Reclaiming Childhood from Media Moguls and Corporate Marketers.

Facilitating Play for Young Children

Join us for the 2010 Facilitating Play program, where participants explore uses of play in learning and therapeutic contexts as well as approaches to serving as a “playworker” in a range of settings, including outdoor parks, children’s museums, and hospitals. Sessions on campus are complemented by field observations of children at play.
