Joann Smith, Director
Joann Smith received her B.A and M.S in Urban Education from Iona College; her M.A. in English from Lehman College, CUNY; and her M.F.A in fiction from Sarah Lawrence College. She taught for many years in the New York City public school system, and also served as a mentor for new teachers. Since leaving teaching, she has served as interim-acting director of Continuing Education at Sarah Lawrence from 2000-2001, and as associate director of the Hudson Valley Writers' Center. Joann is an avid yoga student and a certified yoga teacher, as well as a short story writer. Her fiction has been published in several literary journals.
Nadeen M. Thomas, Administrative Assistant
Nadeen Thomas received her B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and her M.S.ED. from Hunter College A.B.D. (Anthropology), The City University of New York Graduate School. Nadeen comes to CCE with extensive research, library, teaching, computer, and administrative experience. Fluent in French, she is currently completing her dissertation on the experience of young North African Muslims who have immigrated to France.
