Endowed and Sponsored Undergraduate Scholarship Funds
The following scholarships are awarded to returning undergraduate students who have financial need and have demonstrated academic achievement. Scholarships for graduate students are listed in the Graduate Aid section.

George B. Adams Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established in honor of George B. Adams by trustees and other colleagues on the occasion of his retirement as chairman of the Board of Trustees, 1987 to 1991.

LeBurta Gates Atherton Scholarship Fund
An endowed scholarship to enhance students’ understanding of the world. Restricted to students from the state of Hawaii. The fund was established in 1999 by LeBurta Gates Atherton ’39.

Helen Brinkley Bainbridge Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established through a bequest from Helen Brinkley Bainbridge ’34 to assist an entering first-year student whose academic and extracurricular record demonstrates superior overall performance and a genuine concern for the welfare of others.

Antonio and Helen Barolini Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established by a longtime friend, employee, and library patron of the College and parent of two graduates.

Oscar Bodansky Scholarship Fund
Established by Barbara Biber Bodansky in memory of her husband, distinguished biochemist, physician, and the chairman of the Department of Biochemistry of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Kermit Breiseth Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established by former students of Mr. Breiseth, members of the faculty, friends, and family.

Lina Brock Scholarship Fund for the Study of the Third World
An endowed fund established to honor Lina Brock’s teaching, research interests, and concern for cross-cultural understanding by her colleagues, friends, family, and former students. Lina Brock was a member of the anthropology faculty from 1981 until her death in 1991.

Gary Burnley Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established in recognition of the artistry and teaching of Gary Burnley and of all visual artists who pursue their art in the public interest, and in recognition of the importance of the Center for Continuing Education. This scholarship will be awarded to a third- or fourth-year student who has demonstrated promise and a commitment to the visual arts in the service of the public.

Geraldine Putman Clark Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established in 1992 in memory of Geraldine Putman Clark ’45 by her husband, Henry B. Clark, to aid an outstanding junior in the studio arts program.

Saul and Amy Cohen Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established in 1988 by Saul and Amy Scheuer Cohen ’51, both longtime friends and distinguished trustees of the College.

Jane Cooper Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established to honor Jane Cooper on her retirement after 37 years on the writing/literature faculty. Income from this fund is to be used to assist a writing student.

Barbara Wallace Cornwall Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph C. Cornwall. Income from this fund is to be used to make it possible for a student from a less-advantaged background to study at Sarah Lawrence.

Harle Adair Dammann Writing Scholarship Fund
A fund established by Kenneth and Harle Montgomery in memory of Harle Adair Dammann ’72, “traveler, writer, dreamer. The written word was her joy, and she would rejoice to know that she is helping future writers achieve their dreams at Sarah Lawrence.”

Mary Miller Davidoff Fund
A fund established in memory of Mary Miller Davidoff ’53 by her family and friends. This award is given to a student of merit with outstanding personal qualities.

Gaylord Donnelley Family Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established by his family to honor Gaylord Donnelley, trustee and honorary trustee of the College from 1965 until his death in 1992.

Gaylord Donnelley Family Scholarship for Social Responsibility
A fund established to provide financial aid to undergraduate students in financial need who demonstrate a marked degree of social responsibility.

Gaylord Donnelley Family Science Scholarship
A fund to provide financial aid for undergraduate students who demonstrate exceptional potential in the sciences, with particular emphasis on environmental science.

Elinor Dubin Scholarship Fund
An endowed scholarship fund established by Dr. Harry E. Dubin and family in memory of Elinor Dubin ’52.

Vicki Eaton Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established in memory of Vicki Eaton ’76. Preference in awarding this aid will be given to students with severe physical disabilities.

The Erdman Family Scholarship Fund
An endowed scholarship provided by the Erdman Family in recognition of the long and meaningful relationship it has enjoyed with Sarah Lawrence, and especially with its students and alumnae/i from the state of Hawaii.

Stewart Fisher Memorial Scholarship
An endowed fund established in memory of Stewart Fisher ’01. Given to students from the Center for Continuing Education.

Mary Gilbert Scholarship Fund
An endow-ed fund established in 2007 by Mary Gilbert ’62 in recognition of the College’s distinctive mode of education and its efforts to recruit and retain an economically diverse student body. The fund supports a student with the highest degree of financial need.

Mary Livingston Griggs and Mary Griggs Burke Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund to aid outstanding students who have completed two or more years of study at Sarah Lawrence and, owing to changed financial circumstances, would be unable to complete their educational program without financial assistance. The fund bears the names of Mary Griggs Burke ’38, honorary trustee of theCollege, and her mother.

The Allan Gurganus Scholarship Fund
Established by Arthur and Theodora Edelman in recognition of Allan Gurganus and his years of creative teaching at Sarah Lawrence College. Awards shall be made to students who have demonstrated academic excellence, with preference given to students of extraordinary ability in writing.

Edith Hale Harkness Scholarship for Creative Writing
An endowed fund established in 2003 by the daughter of Edith Hale Harkness. The scholarship is awarded to an incoming student who demonstrates both unusual ability in creative writing and financial need. This student will retain the scholarship until graduation, provided he or she continues to demonstrate financial need and remains in good academic standing.

Joan Harrison Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established in 1993 by alumnae/i and friends of the Center for Continuing Education to honor Joan Harrison, former associate dean of the College. Income from the fund benefits a Center student who embodies Joan Harrison’s qualities of determination, caring, and commitment.

Max Hart Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established in 2000 through a bequest from Max A. Hart, husband of Florence Straus Hart ’44, in recognition of his support for Sarah Lawrence College and its need forstudent financial aid.

Hawaii Scholarship Fund
In recognition of the historic ties between Sarah Lawrence and Hawaii, this endowed scholarship will be awarded with preference for students from the state of Hawaii.

Priscilla Finn Hawkins Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established in 2004 by family, friends, and colleagues of Priscilla Hawkins, this fund seeks to honor and memorialize Priscilla’s more than thirty years of outstanding service and commitment to Sarah Lawrence. This endowed scholarship will benefit one of the College’s neediest students, as a fitting testament to Priscilla’s sense of compassion and equity, and, above all, her deep understanding of and devotion to Sarah Lawrence and its students.

William Randolph Hearst Endowed Scholarship
A fund established by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation to provide aid to students from traditionally underrepresented populations.

Meridith A. Helton Scholarship Fund
An endowed scholarship fund established in 2002 in memory of Meridith A. Helton ’97 by her family and friends, this fund provides aid to a returning student who demonstrates financial need and a commitment to social justice. Preference shall be given to students of women’s history or labor history.

The Horncrest Initiative for Diversity
This fund was established in 2000 by an anonymous alumna and her husband in recognition of the importance of diversity to the Sarah Lawrence community and the world at large. The fund will provide four-year scholarships to be awarded to first-year students from traditionally underrepresented populations to support their undergraduate education.

The Chauncey and Katharine Howe Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established by Chauncey and Katharine Von Sinderen Howe ’37.

Robert M. and Nancy W. Hoyt Scholarship Fund
An expendable fund established by Robert ’72 and Nancy Wasserman Hoyt ’76. This fund provides assistance to an undergraduate student who exhibits the highest degree of financial need and high likelihood of success at the College.

Alice Stone Ilchman Scholars Fund
An expendable fund established in 2006 by Strachan Donnelley, an honorary trustee of Sarah Lawrence College. This fund provides financial support to students entering their first year of study who exhibit the highest degree of financial need and high likelihood of success at the College. Students who are designated as Ilchman Scholars will retain the scholarship for four years providing they continue to demonstrate financial need and remain in good economic standing.

Alice Stone Ilchman Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established to honor Alice Stone Ilchman’s tenure as president of the College and to thank her for her support of the College’s adult students. Preference in the award of scholarships generated by this fund is given to students from the Center for Continuing Education.

Jane Judge Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established by students of Jane Judge, former director of the Early Childhood Center and member of the psychology faculty from 1938-1971. Income from this fund is used to help pay the tuition of children from less affluent families at the Sarah Lawrence Early Childhood Center.

Andrea Berger Kalodner Fund
An endowed fund established by a bequest from Andrea Berger Kalodner ’72 to provide scholarships to needy students aged 28 years or older who seek to enter or return to college through the Center for Continuing Education or the College itself.

Andrea Berger Kalodner Trust Fund
An endowed fund established by Raoul Berger in memory of his daughter, Andrea Berger Kalodner ’72. Income from the fund is to be used to aid an outstanding student who has completed two or more years of study at Sarah Lawrence College, but who, owing to changed financial circumstances, would otherwise be unable to complete her or his education at the College. Recipients are selected by the president and members of the faculty and are designated as Andrea Berger Kalodner Scholars.

Frank M. Katz Scholarship Fund for Architecture and Visual Arts
An endowed fund established by former trustee Berelle Katz Samuel ’41 in memory of her father, Frank M. Katz. Income from the fund will benefit students with interest in architecture and visual arts.

Jean Goldschmidt Kempton Fund for Young Writers
An endowed fund established as a permanent memorial to Jean Goldschmidt Kempton ’67 to encourage creative writing in the fields of fiction, poetry, drama, and light verse.

Laurie B. Loevsky Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established by Louis Loevsky, his friends, and colleagues, in memory of his daughter, Laurie Loevsky ’83.

Virginia Speyer Loewenheim Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established by Harold A. Loewenheim, husband of the late Virginia Speyer ’35, and other members of her family.

Helen Lynd and Henry Ladd Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established by Frances Holter Vicario ’34 in honor of former faculty members Helen Lynd and Henry Ladd.

Helen Lynd Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established by former students and friends of Helen Merrell Lynd, faculty member from the opening of the College in 1928 until 1964. Grants are awarded each year to entering first-year students who demonstrate the qualities of intellectual curiosity and creativity that characterized the teaching of Helen Lynd, with support to continue for the full term of their study at the College.

Christopher S. Mariconi II Scholarship Fund
A memorial scholarship fund established in 2007 by family and friends of Christopher S. Mariconi II, the fund provides an annual scholarship to a student from the Yonkers community, with a preference given to a student with an interest in music.

The Memorial Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund, established in 2000, which provides a way for any member of the Sarah Lawrence community to be commemorated in perpetuity. The income from this fund supports financial aid for an undergraduate student.

Martha Rockwell Millett Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established through a bequest of Martha Millett ’47, a dedicated alumna and former trustee of the College.

Mary Milligan Scholarship Fund
An endowed scholarship fund established by family and friends in memory of Mary Milligan, beloved secretary of the College from 1929-1971.

Minnesota Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established by alumnae/i from Minnesota to provide aid to students with financial need and permanent residency in the state of Minnesota.

Ivan and Georgina Nagy Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established by Myra Donnelley ’79, Debbie Donnelley ’84, and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Donnelley in memory of Ivan Nagy, member of the sociology faculty, and his wife, Georgina, to benefit students who combine artistic talent with intellectual commitment in an effort to further human communication, and especially to aid students with a concentration in the visual and performing arts.

The Sarah H. W. Nelson Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established in 2006 by John M. Nelson and Mary W. Nelson, in honor of their daughter. The fund provides scholarship support for students who have demonstrated need for financial aid and have a keen interest in creative writing.

John W. Nields Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established by family, col-leagues, and former students of John Nields, who taught legal studies at the College from 1966 until 1980. An award is made each year to aid a junior or senior interested in pursuing a career in public service or law.

An endowed fund established through a bequest of Margaret V. Noone ’38 to aid one or more students demonstrating merit in the fine arts.

Grace Paley Scholarship
An endowed fund established by Allan Gurganus ’72, students, and friends in honor of distinguished writer and teacher Grace Paley. Awarded to undergraduate writing students.

Becky Perces Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established in memory of Becky Perces ’86 by her family, teachers, and friends. The income is to be awarded each year to one or more students whose ideas or lives reflect an unusual sensitivity to the concerns of world peace and social justice and who require financial assistance to attend Sarah Lawrence College.

Edith Cowles Poor President’s Discretionary Fund
This fund was endowed by Edith Cowles Poor ’43 in 2001 to support the College’s ongoing initiatives to create a more diverse student community. Funds may be used at the request of the president to provide financial assistance to students from traditionally underrepresented populations. -
Esther Raushenbush Scholarship Fund
Established by an alumna to honor a distinguished teacher, dean, and president of Sarah Lawrence, and to encourage and support students who wish to pursue their education through the Center for Continuing Education.

Paul T. Rennell Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established by the family of Paul T. Rennell, husband of Nancy May Rennell Field ’39 and father of Gretchen Rennell ’69 and Nancy (Sally) Zeckhauser. An award is made each year to a student whose interest is in the field of international relations.

Melissa Richter Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established by Susan Barnes Bogdan, M.S. ’77, in memory of Melissa Richter, a former administrator of the College. The fund provides aid to students enrolled in the Center for Continuing Education whose admission criteria are not typical, but whose other qualities indicate that the special aspects of a Sarah Lawrence education will have valuable impact and that the recipients will become important contributors to campus intellectual life.

An endowed fund established by family, friends, and colleagues in honor of Eugenie Robinson ’66 and Benjamin Robinson to provide scholarship assistance to students at the Center for Continuing Education.

Meredith Fonda Russell Memorial Fellowship
An expendable fund established by Sarah Schoentgen, in memory of her daughter Meredith Fonda Russell, this fund provides support for students interested in traveling abroad to work on projects that contribute positively to the community in which they travel as well as to their own research interests.

Meredith Fonda Russell Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established by Sarah Schoentgen, in memory of her daughter Meredith Fonda Russell, to assist a student with financial need who demonstrates a zest for exploring distant places and different cultures, and a deep-seated concern for others.

Anne Turid Sato Scholarship Fund
Established by friends and family in memory of Anne Turid Sato ’68, a woman with deep commitment to social justice. This endowed scholarship will be awarded with preference to women attending the College from overseas.

Robert and Elizabeth Saudek Scholarship in the Performing Arts
A fund to encourage and support first-year students at Sarah Lawrence College who demonstrate exceptional promise in the performing arts and to celebrate the life of Robert Saudek, whose career was dedicated to the development and presentation of the performing arts on television.

Alice Boughton Schaffner Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established by a bequest of Mrs. Schaffner to assist undergraduates who, by reason of social or geographical barriers, are handicapped in pursuing their education.

Scholarship for the Environment
A fund established by an alumna to aid a junior or senior with an interest in the pursuit of ecology and/or the environment as an academic, professional, or personal endeavor.

Sara Lee Schupf Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund to assist students at the Center for Continuing Education. Preference is given to students with strong interest in science.

Margaret Shepherd Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund to aid undergraduate students, established by Margaret Shepherd ’69 as an expression of support and encouragement for future generations.

Social Responsibility Scholarship Fund
A fund awarding scholarships to students in financial need who have demonstrated a marked degree of social responsibility and commitment to the solution of urgent societal concerns.

Students for Students Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established by Sarah Lawrence students. The principal grows annually with money raised by current students through various student-sponsored events on campus.

Jerome Swinford Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established by Victoria Starr Pyle ’30 in memory of Jerome Swinford, a member of the music faculty and head of the voice department from the opening of the College in 1928 until his retirement in 1962.

Lorlee Shark Tenenbaum Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established by her husband and children to honor Lorlee Shark Tenenbaum ’57 on the occasion of her retirement from the Board of Trustees in May 1988.

The Meyer and LaBelle Tenenbaum Scholarship Fund
In recognition of the importance of higher education for students from all socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, this endowed scholarship is awarded to students with demonstrated need for high financial aid, preferably from the southeastern United States.

Elizabeth Welt Trahan Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established in 1999 by Elizabeth Welt Trahan ’51 in gratitude for the education and assistance she received as a student at Sarah Lawrence. Income from the fund provides aid to an undergraduate student who has shown particular interest in Jewish studies.

Margaret Chambers Warnshuis Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established with a gift from the Margaret Chambers Warnshuis Foundation. Income from this fund is used to aid foreign students, with preference given to students from Asia and Africa who intend to return to their home countries.

Constance Warren Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund honoring Miss Warren, president of the College from 1929-1945. The award is made to one or more outstanding juniors and continues through the senior year.

The Lucinda B. Watson Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established to honor the presidency of Alice Stone Ilchman and to support first-year students whose high school activities indicate a strong commitment to community service and social change.

The Kate Welling Memorial Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund established by family and friends of Kate Welling to provide scholarships for children from less advantaged backgrounds to attend the Sarah Lawrence College Early Childhood Center.

The Suzanne Werner Wright Scholarship Fund
An endowed fund to honor the workof the Center for Continuing Education and the College’s commitment to adult students. Income from the fund is used to assist CCE students.

Yonkers Town Scholarship
Established in 1984 for Yonkers, New York, residents regardless of financial situation. Applicants are evaluated on the basis of intellectual achievement and potential for college work.

Class of 2008 Scholarship Fund
An expendable fund established by an anonymous donor. This fund provides assistance for four full years to an undergraduate student who exhibits a high degree of financial need.

The Robert L. Zimmerman Scholarship
A scholarship established in recognition of Sarah Lawrence College’s distinctive mode of education and to honor the many accomplishments and dedication of Robert L. Zimmerman as both a teacher and scholar. For a student entering the third or fourth year of study who exhibits the highest degree of financial need, a high likelihood of success at the College, with a preference for a student with a philosophy focus. This scholarship is to be retained until graduation provided the student continues to demonstrate financial need and remains in good academic standing.
Endowed and Sponsored Enrichment Funds

The Henry G. Altman Lecture Fund for Human Genetics
Established in 2001 by Dorothy M. Altman, in memory of her husband, Henry G. Altman ’50, M.D., this fund is to be used to underwrite in part the lecture component of the annual Seminar in Medical Genetics, conducted for second-year candidates in the Human Genetics program.

The Linda Ashear Fund for Visiting Poets
Endowed in 2001 by Linda Ashear ’88 CCE, this fund will be used to enrich the Sarah Law-rence College Writing program by supporting visits to campus by master poets. These artists-in-residence will conduct master classes, offer public readings, and otherwise support the teaching of poetry on campus. This fund supports the visits of two poets each academic year. -
Asia Travel Award Fund
These expendable funds are provided each year by the Hohenberg Foundation to underwrite student travel costs associated with study abroad programs in Asia.

The Elaine Oakley Behr Visiting Writers Fund
Income from this fund, established by her family in memory of Elaine Oakley Behr ’40, is used to enrich the Sarah Lawrence College Writing program. It supports visits to campus by master writers who conduct classes, meet with students, offer public readings, and otherwise support the College in teaching imaginative writing.

The Adda Bozeman Lecture Fund
This fund was endowed by friends and students of Adda Bozeman, faculty member from 1947-1977. Accompanying the Adda Bozeman Chair in International Relations, this fund supports an annual lecture by a renowned international relations expert.

The Martie Branche Fund
An expendable fund established in 2004 by friends and family of Martie Branche ’53 to provide discretionary funds for students with financial need—with preference given to African American women. Students might request these funds for expenses such as participation in extracurricular activities, travel home for holidays, attendance at events in New York City, or application to graduate school.

The Abigail Angell Canfield Fund for the Child Development Institute
An endowed fund established by Abigail Angell Canfield ’66, which supports faculty development, faculty research, program support, and/or new initiatives at the Child Development Institute.

The Frances Ann Cannon Workshop Theatre Fund
This endowed fund was established by former trustee Frances Ann Cannon Dougherty ’40, and her family and friends,to support the Workshop Theatre and its programs.

The Palmer Gross Ducommun Fund for Art
Established in 1987 by Charles E. Ducommun as a memorial to his wife, this fund is to be used for the enrichment of the College’s program of art. Palmer Ducommun ’44 served as a trustee of the College from 1968 to 1976.

Faculty Teaching Fund in European Culture
Established in 1995 by Michel David-Weill to support teaching and research in European culture.

Viola Farber Artists in Residency Program in Dance
This fund was established by Robert Rauschenberg in celebration of the memory of Viola Farber and in recognition of her visionary leadership of the Sarah Lawrence College Dance department. This fund is to provide the necessary resources to bring performers, dancers, choreographers, and other practitioners of the art of dance to the College in order to teach, create, perform, mentor students, and inspire new work in a supportive setting.

Film and Video Program Enrichment Fund
This endowed fund was established by an anonymous alumna to support the development of an enriched and expanded program in film and video. Income from this fund is to be used at the discretion of the president and the dean of the College.

The Julie and Ruediger Flik Travel Grants
Established in 1991, this endowed fund supports travel for faculty fieldwork and research. Competitive awards are based on faculty proposals.

Margery B. Franklin Fund for Child Development
An endowed fund established in 2006 in recognition of Dr. Margery B. Franklin’s leadership and dedication. The fund is to be used to enhance the Child Development Institute’s work in current issues in child development and education and to support research, forums, guest lecture(s), outreach programs, and/or promote community service.

Genetics Outreach Fund
Established in 2005, this endowed fund supports the Human Genetics Graduate Program.

The Merle Rosenblatt Goldman Fund to Support International Inquiry
This fund is to be used at the discretion of the president of the College in consultation with faculty to support speakers, conferences, and other projects to increase global understanding. The fund was established in 1987 in honor of Merle Goldman ’53 by her husband. Merle Goldman served as a trustee of the College from 1986 to 1994.

The Hewlett-Mellon Fund for Institutional Renewal
This fund was established in 1987 in response to a joint challenge grant from The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Income from the endowment supports a presidential discretionary fund for curricular innovation, faculty development, and special initiatives.In 1994, the fund was expanded after completion of a second challenge grant from The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.

The Horncrest Initiative for Social Change
This fund was established in 2000 by an anonymous alumna and her husband in recognition of the importance of social change to the Sarah Lawrence community and the world at large. The fund will provide program support for the Community Partnerships and Service Learning Program through the academic year 2009-2010.

Alice Ilchman Beautification Fund
An endowed fund established in 2006 with a bequest from President Emerita Alice Stone Ilchman. The fund provides for the upkeep of the gardens in front of Westlands and other campus beautification efforts.

The Barbara Raubvogel Jonas Health Education Fund
The purpose of this fund is to address serious emotional and physical health issues that put our students—especially our younger and new students—at risk and impair their ability to fully participate in the unique educational experience that Sarah Lawrence College offers. The fund will support and enrich existing programs and augment and strengthen new initiatives beginning in 2005-06.

The Marilyn Katz Fund
Established by trustees, alumnae/i, parents, and friends to honor Marilyn Ogus Katz ’54, dean of studies and student life from 1982-1998. Administered by the Office of the Dean of Studies and Student Life, the fund provides small grants to individual students with limited means to enable these students to take full advantage of educational and cultural opportunities on campus and in New York City.

The Ruddick C. Lawrence Presidents Fund for Writing
This endowed fund was establish-ed in 1999 by Ruddick C. Lawrence, chairman of the Board of Trustees, 1964-1969, in celebration of his enduring connection with the College. Income from this fund will be used at the discretion of the president to ensure in perpetuity the strength and quality of the Sarah Lawrence Writing program.

The Diana Chambers Leslie Fund for Student Leadership
This fund supports students or student groups who wish to create activities fostering a shared sense of the greater Sarah Lawrence community. Administered through the Office of the Dean of Studies and Student Life, this fund underwrites student-led initiatives in community-building, campus-wide events, or other co-curricular opportunities. This fund was permanently endowed in 2000 to honor long-time Sarah Lawrence Trustee Diana Chambers Leslie ’69.

The Stanley and Evelyn Lipkin Science and Mathematics Faculty Development Fund
An endowed fund established in 2000 by Stanley and Evelyn Lipkin, parents of Ian Lipkin ’74 and Laurel Lipkin ’79, in support of the development and strengthening of the Science and Mathematics program at Sarah Lawrence. Income from this fund will be used to support the professional development of members of the science and mathematics faculty.

The Cynthia Longfellow Fund for Child Development Lectures
An endowment fund established in 1987 by family and friends of Cynthia Longfellow ’72 to honor the memory of her dedication and professional work as teacher and researcher in child development.

Helen Merrell Lynd Colloquium Fund
An endowed fund established in 2000 by Gladys Chang Hardy-Brazil ’50 in celebration of her fiftieth reunion and in appreciation for the academic excellence and intellectual boldness exemplified by Helen Merrell Lynd. Income from the fund will be used to support a bi-annual colloquium honoring the memory of Helen Merrell Lynd and will emphasize those academic and social values which were of interest to Helen Merrell Lynd, an esteemed member of the faculty from the opening of the College in 1928 until 1964.

The Virginia and Leonard Marx Fund
This fund was established in 1988. The income is to be used at the discretion of the president for the central purposes of the College.

The Blancke Noyes Teaching Fund in the Humanities
An endowed fund to strengthen and support teaching in the humanities, established by family and friends in memory of Blancke Noyes. Mr. Noyes served as a trustee of the College from 1972 until his death in 1978.

The F.W. Olin Fund for Science
This endowment for the renewal and enrichment of the Science and Mathematics program was established in 1991 with a grant from the F.W. Olin Foundation.

President’s New Venture Fund
This endowed fund was established in 1997 by Margot Bogert ’75. Income from the endowment may be used at the discretion of the president to support academic and administrative initiatives that have the potential to advance the College and its educational mission.

The Donald C. Samuel Fund for Economics and Politics
Established in 1981 by family, friends, and associates in memory of Mr. Samuel, a former trustee of the College, this fund brings speakers to the campus to engage the larger College community in study and discussion of innovative approaches to urgent contemporary political, economic, and social problems.

Fund for the Improvement of Senior Faculty Salaries
Bolstered by a 2004 grant from the Arthur Vining Davis Foundation, income from this endowed fund is used to maintain faculty compensation rates that help attract and retain a strong and talented teaching faculty.

Community Partnerships and Service Learning Fund
These expendable funds are provided by Amy Cohen ’51 to underwrite the Service Learning and Community Partnerships program and celebrate the College’s long-term commitment to learning both in and outside the classroom.

The Allen E. Shay Fund for Student Employment
Established in 2005 by Allen E. Shay ’84, this fund encourages and enables students to develop responsibility, confidence, and skills through meaningful employment on campus. Such jobs may include helping faculty with research, providing technical assistance to faculty and students, or working in the community at large. The fund acknowledges Mr. Shay’s own growth as an undergraduate when he assisted mathematics teacher Edward Cogan in the earliest computer classes offered on campus.

The Marilyn M. Simpson Fund for Junior Faculty Development
This fund provides support for research and scholarly work of junior faculty members. The fund was established by the Marilyn M. Simpson Charitable Trust.

The Anita L. Stafford Fund for Learning Through Volunteer Service
An endowed fund established by alumna and former trustee Anita L. Stafford. This fund celebrates the achievements of the Community Partnerships and Service Learning program at Sarah Lawrence College and assures support in per-petuity for students’ learning through community involvement and volunteer service opportunities.

The Joan Milliken Stroud Fund
This endow-ed fund was established by family and friends in 1988 in memory of Mrs. Stroud. It is to be used at the discretion of the president to assist faculty and students in emergency situations and to help them pursue unanticipated opportunities and new initiatives. Joan Milliken Stroud ’44 served as a trustee of the College from 1970 until her death in 1985.

Sarah Lawrence College–University ofHavana Exchange Program Fund
This fund was established by Anne Beane Rudman ’67, a long-time trustee of Sarah Lawrence College, to underwrite the creation of an exchange program with the University of Havana, Cuba. One of the first full exchanges with an American liberal arts college, this program has established a semester abroad program for Sarah Lawrence students beginning August 2001, faculty exchanges, collaborative programs for academic research and conferences, and opportunities for intercultural learning and cultural exchange.

Suzanne Werner Wright Theatre Fund
This fund was established in recognition of the close ties Suzanne Werner Wright has enjoyed with Sarah Lawrence College as student, alumna, and trustee. It funded the renovation of a theatre facility worthy of the College’s commitment and the faculty and students’ talents, supports the College’s Theatre program, and provides for ongoing maintenance and operation of the Suzanne Werner Wright Theatre.

The Faith Whitney Ziesing Fund in the Social Sciences
This fund is designed to support teaching in the disciplines of anthropology, economics, politics, and sociology. It was established in 1988 by family and friends in memory of Faith Whitney Ziesing ’32, a former trustee, who herself taught aspects of economics at the College.

An endowed enrichment fund established in memory of Geraldine Putman Clark ’45 by her husband, Henry B. Clark, to recognize outstanding talent in a studio arts student.

The Edward Cogan Prize for Mathematics and Science
An endowed prize established in memory of Edward Cogan, teacher of mathematics from 1957-1996, to recognize a graduating senior exhibiting excellence in mathematics and science and contributing significantly to the mathematics and science community.

Lucy Grealy Prize for Poetry
An endowed enrichment fund established in memory of Lucy Grealy ’85 by her close friend Ann Patchett ’85, to recognize exceptional undergraduate poets.

Lori Hertzberg Prize for Creativity
An endowed enrichment prize established in memory of Lori Hertzberg ’93 by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Henry Hertzberg, to recognize exceptional creativity in writing or the visual arts on the part of a graduating senior.

Lipkin Family Fund of Prizes for Innovation and Creativity in the Arts and Science
Endowed funds established by Stanley and Evelyn Lipkin, parents of Ian Lipkin ’74 and Laurel Lipkin ’79. These prizes are awarded annually and recognize an outstanding student in playwriting, poetry, the humanities, and human genetics. Each year the prize fund also recognizes a teacher, selected by the president and the Advisory Committee on Faculty Appointments, whose generosity of time and talent draws from students both high performance and a lifelong love of learning.

An endowed fund established in memory of Nancy Lynn Schwartz ’73 by her family and friends to recognize an outstanding student in fiction writing.

The Andrea K. Willison Poetry Prize
A prize established by Malcolm Willison, Martha Huggins, and friends in memory of Andrea Klein Willison ’81 to recognize that undergraduate student or staff member, other than faculty, who submits the best poem on relationships among women, especially in the context of justice for everyone.

The Robert L. Zimmerman Prize for Excellence in Philosophy
A prize established to honor past faculty member Robert L. Zimmerman, to recognize a student of philosophy whose work reflects fire and passion for the subject.
