Please note: The Orientation Week schedule is still being perfected; check this site often for updates. A final, printed version of the week's events will be given to you when you arrive on campus. Until then, some things are subject to change.
Reminder—breakfast is available only in the Siegel Center.
9:30 a.m., Titsworth Lecture Hall
New Student Day of Service
The Office of Community Partnerships presents the ninth annual New Student Community Work Day. This (almost) decade long Sarah Lawrence tradition allows new students to meet and work with community members on projects for which they need assistance. The day begins at 9:30 a.m. with brunch and orientation in Titsworth Lecture Hall. We'll talk about current social justice issues facing the local community as well as how to work in solidarity with our neighbors on these issues. We'll answer questions like: Who do we work with in the community? Why is this work important? What can you do after today to continue this work?
Then we send you (and a boxed lunch) out to the local community with student team leaders/guides. The work will be anything from painting a soup kitchen to working in a community vegetable garden. If you are unable to do physical work, just let us know and we'll arrange work that suits your abilities. Participants will return by 5:00 p.m. PLEASE NOTE: the 9:30 a.m. Orientation is mandatory if you wish to participate in the afternoon community work. We know in social justice work that it is just as important to contextualize the work as it is to do it—so please join us! In order to participate, you must RSVP to partnerships@sarahlawrence.edu since spots are extremely limited! Wear comfortable shoes and clothes you can work and get dirty in— see you there.
